HELPING OUT FOR MOP15
For the third-straight year, C.I.T.Y. x1 is serving on the Panning Committee for Models of Pride 15. MOP15 is a 1-day free conference for LGBTQ youth and their allies. The day is filled with workshops, free food, networking opportunities, live youth entertainment, and a dance finale. For more information on MOP15, visit the official web site by clicking here.

3-ON-3 BEFORE 5
Join our friends from the West Hollywood Teen Center as they host their "3 on 3 Basketball Tournament"! The tournament will take place on the same day as "We've Got Balls" and at the same location (Plummer Park)! This activity will take place from 11:30am-5:00pm and is open to youth ages 13-15 & 16-19. YOUTH VISIT LONG BEACH PRIDE
C.I.T.Y. x1 members attended both days of the 2007 Long Beach Pride Festival on May 19th and 20th. C.I.T.Y. x1 teamed up with SGV Pride to help get the word out on their event this September. Everyone had a blast all weekend long networking, dancing, and interacting with the community.

FREE LGBTQ YOUTH MUSIC VIDEO SCREENING AUG. 31
Be sure to check out the Free LGBTQ Youth Music Video Screening this Friday, August 31st @ 7:30pm in Plummer Park (7377 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood)! Come view original music videos stylings of Los Angeles' own talented LGBTQ Youth.

KICKING BACK (WITH CUPID)
We would like to thank everyone who showed up last night to Cupid's KickBack! Over 160 people in attendance enjoyed free food, giftbags, socializing, live youth performances, and a variety of music. Youth from all over L.A. County were in attendance as well as several youth groups and community organizations. Everyone there got see how Fiesta Hall was transformed into an amazing Valentine's set with tons of decorations.

YOUTH RING IN 2007 @ CLUB FREEDOM
Youth were present at this year's edition of Club Freedom to ring in 2007! Club Freedom is L.A.'s Premiere Alternative New Year's Event and is
an alcohol and drug free New Year's Eve dance party. The event was produced to provide support and encouragement for the Los Angeles community to celebrate the new year without alcohol and drugs.
Club Freedom was held on December 31st, at the Village @ Ed Gould Plaza.

VOLUME 2 COMING SOON
We are getting ready to do it again! The second edition of the "L Youth Forum" will be taking place soon! his will be a two-hour forum to discuss the various issues surrounding lesbian youth. Volume 1 took place back in February and was well-received by the community. This time around, we will be having new speakers, additional literature, entertainment (by lesbian youth), new resources, and more! Stay tuned to our web site for the date, time and location of this unique series that was specially created to give lesbian youth a voice.

IN HONOR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Join our friends at USC for "Black QueerStory Black LGBT Historical Activists: A Black History Month Program" on Thursday, February 15 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. This special activity will be located on the USC Campus at the Upstairs Commons Cafe, located in the Garden Dining Room.

BE PART OF IT
Queer Youth Advocacy Day is a youth-led day of lobbying, advocacy training, and educational workshops at the Capitol in Sacramento on March 26, 2007. It's a super opportunity for hundreds of CA youth activists just like you to unite and educate lawmakers on the needs of LGBTQ youth and what is needed to end harassment and discrimination in school. This event is co-sponsored by GSA Network and Equality California.
Queer Youth Advocacy Day is a free event and is open to all California youth ages 24 and under. Free meals will be provided and GSA Network and EQCA will be subsidizing some free transportation.

MARIAH HONORED (TWICE)
Not only did Mariah perform @ the 2006 ThanXgiving Youth Social, but she is also a recipient of this year’s Paul Andrew Starke WARRIOR Awards! The C.I.T.Y. x1 Youth Board nominated Mariah for this award due to her strong commitment to youth empowerment and all of the group’s activities, which have focused on HIV/AIDS & Crystal Meth Prevention. The Awards will be given out on December 1st during the World AIDS Day activities at MCCLA.
And if that wasn't enuff!...Mariah received a City of West Hollywood Proclamation at the City Council Meeting on Monday, November 20th, 2006 at the WeHo Park Auditorium.

WORLD AIDS DAY 2006
For the third-straight year, members of C.I.T.Y. x1 were on hand to honor, remember, and pay respects during the World AIDS Day activities in the City of West Hollywood.
Held on Friday, December 1st, the evening started at City Hall with guest speakers. From there, everyone in attendance gathered for a Candlelight Vigil and the annual "March Along the West Hollywood Memorial Walk". A special program was then held at the Metropolitan Community Church, LA (MCCLA) where the 2006 WARRIOR Awards were given out. C.I.T.Y. x1 member, Mariah, was the recipient of an award.
Several agencies, groups, City Officials, friends, and community members were present to remember those who had died of AIDS and to talk about the future of the community.

C.I.T.Y. X1 YOUTH ON TV (AGAIN)
C.I.T.Y. x1 youth were invited as special guests at the August 17th taping of "The Waide Show". Filmed at the Warner Studios in Van Nuys, the topic of the show was "Self-Defense for Queer Youth". Matthew Fashion and Nicole represented C.I.T.Y. x1 as they trained with a professional boxer who showed them a thing or two about self-defense.
The show will air on Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 at 9:00pm on Channel 25. The show will only air on Warner Cable in the Van Nuys area.

SKIPPY'S THANKSGIVING
The Skippy Comic is the creation of C.I.T.Y. x1 member, Eric Schlegel. Eric created a special Thanksgiving strip just for this year's ThanXgiving Youth Social! The strip was published in the event program, which was distributed at the Social. Everyone who attended got to see what Skippy is thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday. If you missed the event and didn't get your copy of the event program, no problem! We got Skippy right here on CITYx1.com! Click here to view the special strip.

YOUTH UP FOR 2006 WEHO AWARD
A strong supporter of youth empowerment and his peers, Matthew has been working hard over the past 2 years to establish himself as an entertainer in the community. Matthew has appeared in countless TV productions, Internet sites, community events, and has even hosted his own radio show! And recently, he was the MC for the 2006 ThanXgiving Youth Social.
With this year's WeHo Awards being just around the corner,
Matthew is once again nominated in the category of “Popular Male Personality”!

WE BROUGHT TURKEY BACK
Diverse, entertaining, resourceful, and empowering! These are all words that describe the 2006 ThanXgiving Youth Social, which took place on November the 18th @ MCCLA. Several youth from all over Southern California were present as well as representatives from the City of West Hollywood, and a variety of youth groups.

CHILLIN' OUT @ THE 2006 EGG NOGG YOUTH SOCIAL
A special thanks goes out to everyone who supported, attended, and volunteered at this year's Egg Nogg Youth Social. This year marked the third-straight year that the C.I.T.Y. x1 Youth Group presented a free social for youth to socialize in, enjoy free holiday snacks, and feel empowered during the holiday season...and we're doin' it again next year!

C.I.T.Y. x1 STOPS BY MOP14
Youth from C.I.T.Y. x1 attended the Models of Pride Youth Conference on Saturday, November 4th, 2006 for the third-straight year. Members of the group were out there volunteering and promoting the ThanXgiving Youth Social. Everyone at MOP14 got a first-look at the new posters and flyers for the event!
And not only did the group volunteer and get the word out on the Social, but they also presented a workshop at the conference. The group presented its popular workshop titled, "MySpace.com: A Place to Make Friends or Just A Bunch of Drama!?" (which was featured earlier this year in The Advocate). Several youth attended the workshop and experienced an entertaining conversation on MySpace.com.

YOUTH ATTEND SUNSET JUNCTION
For the third year in a row, the youth of C.I.T.Y. x1 attended the Sunset Junction Festival on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27, 2006. Not only did we attend, but we also had our own booth there!
Youth volunteered their time for two days and helped get the word out on several youth resources, events & activities, HIV/AIDS prevention, and our upcoming ThanXgiving Youth Social.

Sunday, September 17th will be a very busy day for the members of C.I.T.Y. x1. We will actually be in two places, two cities, and two events at the same time! We will kick off the day, bright and early, at the 2006 West Hollywood BookFair. From there the second part of our team will be at San Gabriel Valley Pride in the afternoon.

WEHO CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZES CITY x1 ON ANNIVERSARY
The West Hollywood City Council had a special special presentation for C.I.T.Y. x1 at the June 5th City Council Meeting. The youth of C.I.T.Y. x1 were recognized for having made it one full year as a youth organization in the City of West Hollywood. A very nice Proclamation was presented to the youth members present at the meeting.

BEING A PART OF HISTORY (TWICE)
C.I.T.Y. x1 members attended the 25th Anniversary of Frontiers Magazine on May 10th, 2006. We were there volunteering and helping out with a number of tasks. Plus, not only was this the 25th anniversary of Frontiers, but it was also the 15th anniversary of The Abbey! We were proud, and honored, to have been invited to both of these historic/milestone events.

KICKING OFF THE BIG WEEKEND
C.I.T.Y. x1 is honored to be one of three youth charities being named benefactors for the "Nun Party". This event will take place on Friday, June 9th, 2006 at 7:30pm on the Gay Pride Back Lot. The "Nun Party" is being presented by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Come by and meet some of our members who will be volunteering at this event.

For the second-straight year, the West Hollywood Idol will be returning to Peer Party! The first WeHo Idol last year saw Jackie Champa walk away with the championship after 4 very competitive rounds. RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR
Youth from C.I.T.Y. x1 rang in 2006 at Club Freedom! Club Freedom is West Hollywood's Premiere Alternative New Year's Eve Event and is an alcohol and tobacco free event!
Club Freedom took place at West Hollywood Park from 8:00pm to 1:00am. There was a live DJ, raffles, free stuff, and more!

VALENTINE'S DAY EVENT
Come and enjoy a FREE party for LGBTQ youth and their friends (15-23) on Valentine's Day from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. There will be food, music, games and a talent show! This event will take place at the Jeff Griffith Youth Center, which is located at 7051 Santa Monica Blvd. And just in case you didn't know, Valentine's Day is on Tuesday, February 14th!

YOUTH WORSHIP SERVICE
Join "The Tribe" on Friday, February 17th, 2006 at 7:30pm as they present their first "Youth Worship Service". This activity will be held at MCCLA, which is located at 8714 Santa Monica Blvd.
The Tribe Youth Group is working on creating a safe place for the youth of the new generation to express their Spirituality And Worship.

THE EGG NOGG YOUTH SOCIAL
The Egg Nogg Youth Social is now in the history books. On December 17th, 2005, nearly 100 people attended this free event, which was held at Plummer Park in the City of West Hollywood.
Youth in attendance enjoyed free holiday treats, several raffles, youth resources, new friends and even tricycle races!

TY HONORED
C.I.T.Y. x1 Co-Chair, Ty Thomas, was during World AIDS Day 2005 on December 1st. Ty was the recipient of the Paul Andrew Starke Warrior Award. Ty was recognized for his various accomplishments in serving the youth community and being an advocate for HIV Prevention. The Warrior Award is a prestigious award that honors individuals with outstanding service to the community.

C.I.T.Y. X1 CREATES WEB SITE FOR M.O.P. XIII
Two of our members created the web site for the 13th edition of the annual Models of Pride Conference.
This popular youth conference focuses on the concerns and interests of LGBT Queer youth, and allies. Occidental College will host this year's event.
C.I.T.Y X1, which is a Cooperating Organization for the event, will be presenting a workshop at the conference and will host an outreach table at the Resource Fair.

TEAM LEADERS @ WEHO BOOK FAIR
The youth of C.I.T.Y. X1 were Team Leaders at the 4th Annual West Hollywood Book Fair on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at West Hollywood Park. The fair, which went from from 10am-6pm, was founded by the City of West Hollywood in 2002 to encourage reading, writing, and literacy in West Hollywood. It is a creative, diverse event that also serves to build community by connecting individuals with businesses, libraries, schools, literary organizations and each other.
As Team Leaders, our responsibilities included helping out with registration, assisting visitors, and helping with the various set-ups.

YOUTH AT 2005 LATIN PRIDE FESTIVAL
Members of the Peer Party Committee attended the 2005 Latin Pride Festival in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, September 4th (Labor Day Weekend). We shared the C.A.P.I. Booth with the organizers of the L.A./Valley Pride Festival.
We distributed information on Peer Party 4, promos for L.A. Pride 2006, and various resources for youth.

PEER PARTY VISITS SUNSET JUNCTION
We were live and in living color at the 2005 Sunset Junction Street Fair on Saturday, August 27th and on Sunday, August 28th. Our booth had info about Peer Party 2006, our group, as well as several youth resources! Youth in attendance got to experience one of Los Angeles' biggest cultural festivals. There was plenty of art, entertainment, music, and partying!

CELEBRATING HISTORY
C.I.T.Y. X1 Youth attended the August 26th showing of "Iron Jawed Angels" at the West Hollywood Park Softball Field. The film showing was part of the West Hollywood's "A Movie In The Park" summer series. The movie was preceded by a rally made up of an All-Star cast of government officials including U.S. Congressmember Diane E. Watson, California State Senators Debra Bowen and Gloria Romero, West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land, West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman, and more!
This special event was in celebration of the 85th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women's right to vote!!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, TIMEOUT
The youth of C.I.T.Y. X1 were the special guests on the August 17th live edition of "TimeOut with Jimmy Palmieri". Some of the issues covered were the accomplishments of the group during the summer, upcoming projects, GIRL TALK, and issues affecting gay youth in and around West Hollywood.
"TimeOut with Jimmy Palmieri" is West Hollywood's hottest show and can be seen on Adelphia Cable West Hollywood Channel 36.

C.I.T.Y. X1 VISITS THE 2005 L.A. RODEO
Youth from C.I.T.Y. X1 attended the 21st Annual L.A. Rodeo at The L.A. Equestrian Center in Griffith Park on Sunday, August 7th, 2005. In efforts to break new ground and check out a new festival, C.I.T.Y X1 was to only visible youth group at the event.
We enjoyed cowboy hats, a rodeo show, BBQ, and of course...dancing (square-dancing that is)!

A MOVIE IN THE PARK
Our lesbian youth from GIRL TALK attended the special showing of the movie "D.E.B.S." on Friday, August 5th in the West Hollywood Park Softball Field. Youth at the event got to talk about C.I.T.Y. X1, help raffle prizes, socialize, and enjoy a movie under the Summer Moon.
This event was presented by Lesbian Visibility, 2005.

On Saturday, July 30th, we attended the 2005 San Diego Pride Festival at Balboa Park. For many of our youth, this was their first time attending S.D. Pride and they also had the opportunity to interact with youth organizations from around the state.

YOUTH AT C.S.W. VOLUNTEER PARTY
On Sunday, July 24th, 2005, we attended the C.S.W. Volunteer Party at "The Village". This party was held in honor of all of the people who volunteered their time to make the 2005 L.A. Pride Festival Possible. So.....since many of our youth volunteered their time with Peer Party, we went to the party!
A total of 12 youth attended the event and showed their commitment to youth empowerment. Additionally, Mariah (who was a finalist in the WeHo Idol contest held at L.A. Pride) gave a special live performance.

C.I.T.Y. X1 YOUTH ATTEND THIRD WEHO CRYSTAL METH FORUM
C.I.T.Y. X1 made its presence felt at the June 29th "Beyond Crystal Meth: Healing Our Minds, Bodies, and Souls" forum at the West Hollywood Park Auditorium. A total of six youth attended what was a very informative, emotional, and entertaining forum. This was the City of West Hollywood's third Crystal Meth Forum since last October's "Crystal Meth: The HIV Connection" forum.

RAISIN' THEM FUNDS
Just two weeks after the establishment of C.I.T.Y. X1, a total of $513.36 has been raised! A special thanks goes out to all of the parents and members of the community who have shown their support. Funds will be used to print flyers, buy supplies, purchase necessary services, and to establish our legal paperwork. Be sure to visit our Donations Page.
 
HITTING THE STREETS, SPREADING THE WORD
On Thursday, June 30th, 2005, youth from C.I.T.Y. X1 hosted an outreach table in West Hollywood from 9:00pm-11:00pm. A total of eight youth from C.I.T.Y. X1 were in attendance and helped distribute promotional and prevention materials, provided info on C.I.T.Y. X1, and recruited new youth. Click here for photos.

YOUTH LEAVE L.A. SHANTI, START THEIR OWN NONPROFIT
Former youth members of C.I.T.Y. Project have left the L.A. Shanti Foundation and have decided to start their own youth nonprofit organization. This new organization will be known as C.I.T.Y. X1, a youth group comprised of various youth leaders from the community empowering other youth within the 14-24 age bracket.
